Me and my Scroll Saw

For this month March 2013 as you can see I have not done much really - but warmer weather prompted me to go in the hut and do something - tidy it first (steve been it it again (hubby)) then went in my offcuts box and found some beech and decided to cut out some free hand toadstools and a free hand elephant, all items cutout with the scrollsaw and finished with a small stationery sander, edges finished with a sponge sand blocks.

This is cut free hand and made from beech, size approx 4 cm x 5 cm and 0.5cm thick.
This cute little elephant is going to be a brooch.

The image on the right is again a free hand toadstool cut from plywood, size is approx 12 cm x 8 cm and 0.3cm thick.  I think i will pyrograph the toadstools and make it into a wall decoration with a brass triangle hanger finished with danish oil.

The image to the right is again a free hand toadstool cut out again with the scroll saw, measures approx 4 cm x 5 cm and 0.5cm thick.

The finished item is going to be a brooch probably finished with danish oil

Hi again,

Thank you for popping by,

I have been in the hut again, using by Scroll Saw and hubby's band saw that he said I must only use under supervision, well I could not be bothered to shout him in the hut, so I went ahead and used it all by myself, I was extra careful as I was just cutting slithers off the wood.

and here it is - My Wooden Paint brush holder

Really pleased with the finished product - when I have got around to painting it, I will post more images. - -----------

Update - I never actually got round to painting it, Unfortunately I only glued it with superglue (short cutted it) and a few weeks later it fell apart :(  but my Hubby made me a better one :)

Me having a go at Intarsia !

Long time no post, so I thought I would post my latest project which is a Teddy Bear snoozing on the moon.

I have never done Intarsia before, but I don't think its going to be my last project - I really enjoyed cutting and sanding the pieces.  It is not a quick process, but this just took me about 5 hours to complete.

Pieces are cut from pine, just a length that I bought from our DIY store.  The teddy bear is stained pine. The complete project it glued together and stuck on 6mm ply wood.

Teddy Bear snoozing in the moon

I can see where I have gone wrong on this and hope to do better on the next project.
Not sure what the next will be yet.

Thank you for looking

Kriss

Well I did make the above teddy in the moon again, and it looks loads better, the shaping is good, and I coloured it with stain and I think it looks amazing, I will post a picture later.

My next project was a picture of my daughter looking towards the sea, a lovely little photo I thought to transfer into a wooden Intarsia project.

Turned out pretty well for a 3rd attempt at Intarsia.
I can see what faults I have made and hopefully will fix those on the next round.
<><><><> used super glue to fix the pieces down, WRONG it does not give enough time to rearrange your pieces for that correct fit.  ( I was tooooooo eager and wanted it finished like yesterday :(  ) Next time i will use superglue and wood glue to give it a little more time for fitting.

Need to seal the wood, I think I will use spray acrylic and see what it turns out like.

Keep watching as not sure what my next project will be next.....

Would love to see your projects and any hints and tips you may have.

Thank you for looking, take care, Kriss
